Stitchburgh Pattern Party

On Saturday January 14 at 2pm, we’re having a party with pattern designer Sarah Jordan- aka PAKnitWit – to showcase her brand new collection of patterns. Stitchburgh highlights everything that’s great about the Steel City, represented in knitwear! They capture everything from pierogis to the Point. It’s going to be a blast! We will feature new kits of Steel City Fiber‘s yarns to go along with some of Sarah’s beautiful designs. Sarah will be here to answer questions about her Stitchburgh designs or designing knitwear in general. If you’re a knitter in Pittsburgh, this event is for you!

Hang out with us and celebrate an awesome local designer. The party starts at 2 PM, we hope to see you there!

Maker Faire Pittsburgh October 15 & 16 2016

There’s an awesome worldwide yearly Faire that happens. We’re one of the lucky ones that has this Faire in our city! HackPgh has been producing Maker Faire here in Pgh and this year is supposed to be the largest and biggest one yet!

Maker Faire is a community-based learning event that inspires everyone to become a maker! Get excited this Faire is huge and combines some of the coolest people in the city. The non-exhaustive list of the innovative things happening throughout the Faire are listed below.

The Faire features technology, art, craft, electronics, engineering, and other projects created by makers themselves, including student projects, robotics, fashion, 3D printers and CNC mills, textile arts and crafts, home energy monitoring, rockets and R/C toys, sustainability, green tech, radios, vintage computers and game systems, electronics, electric vehicles, biology/biotech and chemistry projects, puppets, kites, bicycles, unusual tools or machines and more.

In addition to displays and exhibits, Maker Faire Pittsburgh will feature special performances, speakers, demonstrations and workshops featuring 3D printing, laser cutting, microcontrollers, silk screening…. and so much more.

untitledThe best part of all of this is that we’re one of those makers!

This year the SCFC will bring our fiber, dyeing, spinning, and weaving selves to the North Side for the entire event. We’re even bringing our 22″ four harness treadle loom. So get excited–I know we are!

What do we need for this fair you ask? Besides the prep, we need enough supplies to provide DIY hands-on fun for hundreds of people. So exciting yes, and expensive yes. We want everyone to come and be able to play and get as excited as we are in learning something new, yet so timeless. If you’re so inclined, a little donation towards our funds would help spread the love of the fiber arts to all those that attend.
Come say hello to us at the Faire and join in the fiber-loving fun!
