Shadyside Stitch and Bitch (all skill levels)

Weekly meeting for the Shadyside Stitch and Bitch group. Free and open to members and nonmembers alike.

Drop-In Knitting Help (all skill levels)

every Saturday, 12-4 PM

Anytime between 12 and 4pm every Saturday, drop by the SCFC for help, motivation, and commiseration you need to finish your projects! If you bring a project, we’ll provide the tea, cookies, and guidance.

The founders of the SCFC are all skilled knitters who can help with everything from dropped stitches to mis-crossed cables. We can help with sewing in ends, attaching buttons, seaming, blocking, taking pictures, or any other related finishing task. Like office hours, you can stay the whole time or leave when your project is done.

Sunday Spinning Group (all skill levels)

every Sunday, 4-6 PM

Join us in our lounge or on the porch for a casual spinning group. Free if you bring your own equipment. If you wish to use our wheels or spindles you must be a member or purchase a day pass.

Basic Embroidery (beginner)

Embroidery is an easy way enhance any fabric. This workshop will teach you the basic skills necessary to set up and start embroidering. Bring a small pair of scissors, and a simple 3” by 3″ line drawing or choose from designs available in class. All other materials are provided. Adults and children 13 and up are welcome.

Hooked on Crochet: Candle Cover (intermediate)

Now that you’ve mastered the basics, learn more advanced crochet techniques! In this class, you will learn stitches including half double crochet, double crochet and treble crochet and work in the round. Students will work on a beautiful votive candle cover pattern that can be used for all occasions.

Please bring a size H hook with you to class.

Crochet with Wire and Beads (beginner)

In this class we will create a braided necklace using crochet, wire and beads. The student will crochet three strands of crochet chain and beads incorporated into their work. We will braid the three strands to create a striking end result. We will use a lobster clasp with jump rings to finish off the necklace. We will work with 28 gauge artistic wire and 6mm or 8mm beads, provided with the materials fee. Students will learn how to work and crochet with the wire. By the end of the class the student will walk away with a one of a kind, stunning necklace.

Please bring a size 8/H steel crochet hook with you to class. Wood and plastic crochet hooks are not appropriate when working with wire.

This class is open to all levels, however, students should be able to do crochet chain stitch and three strand braiding. Good manual dexterity is needed for this class. Students with severe arthritic hands may find this class too challenging.

Newbie Crochet (intermediate)

An introductory class designed for those who have zero to little crochet experience. You will be introduced to the crochet world including yarn selection and hook sizes. You will learn basic techniques to include chain and slip stitch, single crochet, turning and weaving in ends. Students go home with a beginner project of a crocheted coaster, practice yarn and a crochet hook.
