Save the date: November 12 is Pittsburgh’s Indie Knit and Spin Fiber Arts Marketplace at the Wilkins School Community Center. This year, we’re excited to be represented there via demo, raffle prize, and a booth! This free event runs from 10-4 so you’ve got plenty of opportunity to stop in.
At 3:00pm we’ll be doing a demo about tension styles in wheels. Have you wondered what scotch, brake bands, or mother-of-alls have to do with spinning? Are you thinking about buying a wheel but don’t know what kind to get? We’ll give you an overview about how wheels work and why you might pick one style over another. Three out of 12 of our studio’s wheels will be there. Don’t forget you can visit the SCFC to try any or all of our wheels!
One of the raffle prizes is a full month membership to the Collective. Use it to complete a weaving project on one of the big floor looms, process and dye a fleece, or tour all of our spinning wheels. More info about our membership can be found here.
At our vendor booth, we’ll have lots of handmade in Pittsburgh goodies for all the knitters, spinners, and crocheters out there. We’ll bring some Yinzer Sock, some Ellsworth Worsted, and roving dyed by the SCFC ladies, plus project bags, handspun, and stitch markers made by our awesome members! By far the coolest thing at our booth will be the Build-A-Batt station where you can pick out fiber, pay by weight, and blend your own batt! The Build-A-Batt station at our spinzilla party was a big hit, so now we’re doing it wherever we can.

Indie Knit and Spin is a can’t-miss event for knitters and spinners and fiber lovers in Pittsburgh. Hope to see you there!
